The Retreat Kitchen

There are a couple of things about a homely kitchen that makes it special - the fact that you will always be welcomed and that it is normally where the "good stuff" is kept hidden or slowly simmering. The smell of freshly baked breads, sound of mixers and blenders, the look of fresh fish and poultry and the sense of extreme heat.  All these hidden and simmering treasures are made with the utmost care and always in abundance, rounded off with "seasoned" timing in the Retreat Kitchen.

While the interiors are warm and elegant by an open fire and the dining room wall allowing you a peek into the kitchen’s soul, the unforgettable experience is dining on the terrace.  The sound of waves breaking in the not too distant Atlantic Ocean, with abundant greenery as a side attraction, completes the blissful atmosphere

Gastronomic Explorers take note!

On Valentine’s Day 2012, Camps Bay Retreat will be hosting the indulgent Chocolate Feast.

Six courses of decadent delights, starting with an Amuse Bouche of Phyllo Parcels filled with Figs, Dark Chocolate and Brie, and culminating with a White Chocolate and Mango Panna Cotta. Each course will be paired with wine carefully selected by chef Robyn Capendale to complement the taste and bring out the subtle flavours of each ingredient.

With exceptional wine included, a creative and playful ambiance, and an overall theme of one of Nature’s most powerful aphrodisiacs, the evening promises to be a stimulating feast for the senses as well as the stomach.

Shakespeare was wrong, music isn’t the food of love, it’s chocolate! Contact Camps Bay Retreat on 021 437 8300 to make a booking as seats are limited.

You are welcome to visit our chef at any time, discussing dietary requirements and special requests,  or just sit back and feast your eyes on the action with the inclusion of the odd flying pot and pan.

A creative classic French menu with unique culinary touches is updated daily to incorporate the freshest ingredients and hearty home baked breads and pastries.  Organic home grown herbs, vegetables and micro herbs clearly features as an ingredient or garnish throughout.

From the breakfast menu that covers seasonal continental buffets with an A’la Carte option wih a twist, to lunches that’s kept light and current, and best served as picnic in the shade of mature trees with the ocean as backdrop.

Unpretentious dishes grace the dinner menu with modern touches to the classics.  The tender signature Chalmar Beef Fillet is the ever popular dish – either cooked on the grill, or over open fire during the summer months.

Although we treat our residents only to exclusive dinners on Sundays & Mondays evenings, visitors are most welcome to come and experience dinner Tuesdays to Saturdays during the off season.  Breakfast and lunches available throughout with special care and attention to special events and days.
